Project Goal Introduction
The goal of this project was to design and develop the core elements of iiNCLUD, a comprehensive online directory dedicated to connecting users with inclusive businesses. My contribution encompassed visual design, platform development, and crafting the "About Us" page to convey its mission of social responsibility and belonging.
Client Background
iiNCLUD is a pioneering platform seeking to redefine the way consumers locate and support businesses committed to inclusive practices. Their audience spans individuals seeking services/products and businesses proudly fostering safe spaces.
Challenges
Intuitive Interface: Designing a streamlined navigation for browsing businesses by niche while also showcasing the platform's values.
Map Integration: Smoothly incorporating map functionality to visualize business locations in a user-friendly way.
Booking System: Implementing a booking feature or integration with a third-party tool, enabling appointment scheduling.
Mission Alignment: Ensuring the design and messaging throughout the platform reinforced the core values of inclusivity.
Solution
Design Approach: I employed a design strategy that balanced visual appeal with a clear focus on inclusivity, guiding users through the platform intuitively.
Platform Development: Using a hybrid approach, I combined a lightweight WordPress theme with custom frontend development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) to achieve the desired interface for niche browsing and map displays.
Backend Logic: I utilized PHP for server-side functionality and database interactions.
Map Integration: The Google Maps API was integrated, providing a familiar map interface with custom markers and info windows for businesses.
Booking Functionality: I integrated a well-established booking plugin Bookly to streamline appointment scheduling for both users and businesses. Customization ensured the plugin aligned with the platform's branding.
Process
I researched inclusive design principles, crafted the visual interface, and custom-developed the platform utilizing WordPress, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP, integrating a booking plugin.
